Nepenthes x briggsiana "Red"
Tropical pitcher plant
One of the most classic, hard-to-beat hybrids now becoming more widely available, this lowii x ventricosa cross perfectly combines the weirdness of the mother plant with the faster growth and ease of the father. Plants produce stiff leaves up to nearly a foot long on equally sturdy, fairly dense vines, and hourglass-shaped lower pitchers with a bloody red color and a broad, scalloped, slightly toothy peristome that starts out in various stripes of red and purple and can darken to almost black, under a slightly domed lid teeming with bristles underneath. Upper pitchers become lighter colored but even more wildly hourglass-shaped, the mouths often warped out and the peristome thinner but more toothy and stripey. Pitchers can last for months, especially when lightly fed.Available plant is a rooted cutting approx. 5" in diameter.
